CHEST PROTECTOR/TURTLENECK DICKEY


Material:
Approx 750 yards of light weight DK yarn
Needles: #6 (4 mm) straight needles & #3 (3 1/4 mm) DP needles

GAUGE: 5 sts=1"

Cast on 80 sts. on #6 straight needles. K 8 rows (4 ridges). Then
K 5, P 70, K 5. K back across next row. Repeat these two rows for
11 1/2". Shape shoulders as follows:

Row 1: K to within last 5 sts., turn.

Row 2: K to within last 5 sts., turn.

Row 3: K to within last 10 sts., turn.

Row 4: K to within last 10 sts., turn.

Row 5: K to within last 16 sts., turn.

Row 6: K to within last 16 sts., turn.

K  to end of row.

Leave 16 sts for the shoulder on stitch holder, K across row,
turn and leave 16 sts on stitch holder for other shoulder. There
are now 48 sts on needle for collar. Work 2nd side of dickey in
the same manner. Weaver shoulder sts together.  

With #3 DP or circular needle work collar stitches, which are on
holders, in K 2, P 2 ribbing for 7". Bind off loosely in rib. (To
make the collar looser and easier to get over the head, try
binding off with a larger size needle.)
