The Eye of Horus

Horus (Sun God) battled Set (God of Evil) to avenge his father's (Osiris - God of the Lower World and Judge of the Dead) death. During the battle, Horus' eye was plucked out and torn apart, later put together by Thoth (the God of Learning, Reason, and Justice) who made "sound the eye of Horus." The eye is represented by a figure

made of six parts, each corresponding to one of the six senses. These six parts also were part of the measurement system of the ancient Egyptians, each piece representing a specific fraction. The entire eye measured one heqat and each piece a fraction of the heqat.

1/2 heqat (smell)
1/4 heqat (sight)
1/8 heqat (thought)
1/16 heqat (hearing)
1/32 heqat (taste)
1/64 heqat (touch)
