Part 6a: Instructions for Worsted Weight Saddles

Okay, here are directions for knitting the saddle in worsted weight yarn. The patterns are Four-Rib Braid in the center, and Little Twist Cable on either side. I also have a chart for this.

Cast on 31 stitches.

Row 1 (WS):  P7, [k2, p2] twice, k1, [p2, k2] twice, p7

Row 2:  K1, 1/2 LC, 1/2 RC, p2, k2, p2, 2/1/2 RPC, p2, k2, p2, 1/2 LC, 1/2 RC, k1

Row 3 and all wrong-side rows:  Work the stitches as they present themselves 
        (knit the knits and purl the purls)

Row 4:  K3, [k2tog but leave the sts on the needle, then insert the RH needle 
        into the first of those two sts and knit it again], k2, p2, 2/1 LPC, 2/1
        RPC, p1, 2/1 LPC, 2/1 RPC, p2, k2, [k2tog but leave the sts on the 
        needle, then insert the RH needle into the first of those two sts and
        knit it again], k3

Row 6:  K1, 1/2 LC, 1/2 RC, p3, 2/2 RC, p3, 2/2 LC, p3, 1/2 LC, 1/2 RC, k1

Row 8:  K3, [k2tog but leave the sts on the needle, then insert the RH needle
        into the first of those two sts and knit it again], k2, p2, 2/1 RPC, 2/1
        LPC, p1, 2/1 RPC, 2/1 LPC, p2, k2, [k2tog but leave the sts on the 
        needle, then insert the RH needle into the first of those two sts and
        knit it again], k3

Row 10: K1, 1/2 LC, 1/2 RC, p2, k2, p2, 2/1/2 LPC, p2, k2, p2, 1/2 LC, 1/2 RC, k1

Row 12: K3, [k2tog but leave the sts on the needle, then insert the RH needle
        into the first of those two sts and knit it again], k2, p2, 2/1 LPC, 2/1
        RPC, p1, 2/1 LPC, 2/1 RPC, p2, k2, [k2tog but leave the sts on the
        needle, then insert the RH needle into the first of those two sts and
        knit it again], k3

Row 14: K1, 1/2 LC, 1/2 RC, p3, 2/2 RC, p3, 2/2 LC, p3, 1/2 LC, 1/2 RC, k1   
   
Row 16: K3, [k2tog but leave the sts on the needle, then insert the RH needle
        into the first of those two sts and knit it again], k2, p2, 2/1 RPC, 2/1
        LPC, p1, 2/1 RPC, 2/1 LPC, p2, k2, [k2tog but leave the sts on the
        needle, then insert the RH needle into the first of those two sts and
        knit it again], k3

Repeat rows 1-16 until saddle is necessary length. Do not bind off, but place stitches on holder.
