FOOTIES, OR OLD-FASHIONED SLIPPERS, PATTERN


Women's and Men's Sizes

Materials:  4 oz. worsted weight yarn;
            1 pair American size 10.5 (6.5 mm) needles for Women's size, or
            1 pair American size 11 (8 mm) needles for Men's size, or any 
            size needles that will give the stitch gauge given below.

Gauge: 7 sts = 2 inches, 7 rows = 1 inch on size 10.5 needles;
       3 sts = 2 inch, 6 rows = 1 inch on size 11 needles.

NOTE: Yarn is used doubled throughout.

Using size 10.5 (11) needles, cast on 29 sts. 
Row 1: Knit. 
Row 2: K9, *P1, K9, repeat from * once. 
Repeat these two rows until there are 14 ridges on right side, ending 
with Row 2.

SHAPE TOE: 
Row 1: P1, *K1, P1, repeat from * across row.
Row 2: K1, *P1, K1, repeat from * across row.
Repeat these two rows 3 (4) times more. Repeat Row 1. Break off 
yarn, 
leaving 8 inch end.

FINISHING:
Pull yarn through all sts on needle and draw up tightly. Sew to start of 
ribbing to form toe. Fold cast on edge in half and seam for center back. 
Optional -- Make twisted cords for ties and run through top of slipper 
and tie.
