A 1 solar mass star like our Sun puts out exactly 1 solar luminosity of energy and lives about 10 billion years. On the other hand, a 10 solar mass star has about 1000 solar luminosity and lives only about 100 million years. Why does a star only 10 times more massive put out 1000 times more energy and live so much shorter?
