Follow these steps to ensure a successful letter

Step 1: Go to nyassembly.gov, here you will find your representative.

Step 2: On nyassembly.gov type your HOME ADDRESS into the text boxes.

Step 3: Copy your representative's name and come back here.

Step 4: On the line below where it says 'Dear ,' left of the comma, right click the sentence, and click 'paste as plain text' to paste your representative's name.

Step 5: On the line below where it says 'INSERT YOUR STORY HERE', left click on it and delete all the text and write your story there.

Step 6: On the line below where it says 'YOUR NAME HERE', left click on it and delete all the text and write your first and last name there.

Step 7: On the line below where it says 'YOUR MAJOR/MINOR HERE', left click on it and delete all the text and write your major/minor there.

Step 8: On the line below where it says 'YOUR GRADUATING CLASS HERE', left click on it and delete all the text and write your graduating class year there.

Step 9: On the line below where it says 'YOUR HOMETOWN HERE', left click on it and delete all the text and write your hometown name there.

As a student in SUNY’s Educational Opportunity Program (EOP), I would like to personally urge you and your colleagues in the Legislature to support the vital funding for our SUNY Educational Opportunity Programs and Educational Opportunity Centers in the 2023-2024 New York State budget.

We thank you sincerely for your continued support to help maintain funding for EOP and Educational Opportunity Centers (EOC) both before and during the COVID-19 Pandemic. It is my hope that you would be able to continue to advocate for our support. The funding will help to protect these important opportunity programs and benefit the underprepared and economically disadvantaged students that depend on them for a successful future. These opportunity programs are life-changing for many of us. Last year, tens of thousands of students applied for fewer than 2,500 slots in SUNY’s EOP program. They provide access, academic support and financial aid to students like myself, who show promise for success in college but may not otherwise be able to attend.

I am grateful for your work in balancing the budget. We are proud to share with you that since the EOP inception we have had over 75,000 graduates achieve academic success and graduate. Over 72 percent of our alumni stay in New York and contribute nearly 1.66 billion dollars to our NYS economy. Your effort in providing this funding will ensure that future students can access these vital programs and receive the direct aid they need to afford an education and achieve their personal goals.

Step 10: Click the button 'Print Preview' to see how it would look like if someone was going to print your letter.

Step 11: If satisfied with how your letter, click the 'Email' button.

Step 12: Send the email.

If the 'Email' Button(^ right there) is not opening up to your email, you have a few other options to send your letter.

Option 1 - Set gmail up to open emails (There is a video on the right playing to show you how to do it)

Step 1: Copy chrome://settings/handlers and paste in a new tab.
Step 2: Check Sites can ask to handle protocols
Step 3: Open Gmail in a new tab and look for the symbol that looks like (The gray symbol within the red box). (It should be near the top right of your screen.)
Step 4: Once you have clicked that symbol, a text box will pop up. Click the Allow option and then click done.
The email button should work as intended now. If not try the other options below.

Option 2 - Download as pdf and send email

Step 1: Press the Print Preview button.

Step 2: Then make sure your Destination is 'Save as PDF'

Step 3: Click Save.

Step 4: Choose your download folder to download your letter. Then press Save.

Step 5: Open gmail and click compose to create a new email.

Step 6: This letter will be sent to 'grace.maxon@oswego.edu' and the subject is 'Advocacy day letter'. Near the Send button, there is a symbol that looks like a paperclip. Click that, and choose the template.pdf you downloaded in the previous steps.

Step 7: Click Send and now you should be done.

Option 3 - Copy text and paste in email (There is a video on the right playing to show you how to do it)

Step 1: Left click on top of Dear and hold it down. And drag your mouse down under your hometown.
Step 2: After your letter is highlighted, right click and choose 'copy'.
Step 3: Open gmail and click compose to create a new email.
Step 4: This letter will be sent to 'grace.maxon@oswego.edu' and the subject is 'Advocacy day letter'. Right click in the body of the email and click 'paste as plain text'.
Step 5: Click Send and now you should be done.
