Objectives

Learn to create presentations using MS-PowerPoint'2002.

Develop a Presentation for a topic in your book.

Choose a chapter of your textbook for the course (Computer Confluence).  Based on the material in that chapter and, if you wish, supplemental material on that chapter at the book's web site www.computerconfluence.com prepare a 5 to 10 slide presentation.

Things to consider…

Ø      The content coverage for the chapter although not necessarily comprehensive should not be limited to just a few pages in the chapter.

Ø      There should be a message, a theme, and an overall purpose to the presentation.  A presentation with scattered ideas and just a bunch of disjointed slides is not acceptable here.

Ø      Use of graphics from the book, off of the website for the book, or anywhere else for that matter to better communicate the ideas from the chapter and enhance the presentation will be important.

Ø      Use of presentation features in PowerPoint controlling the delivery of the information as well as use of animation features will be important.

Ø      Turn in a floppy disk with your presentation on it.  Be sure to write your name on the disk.

Publish the Presentation on the web (5 Points Extra Credit)

Save your presentation as HTML and make it available off of your webpage for the course.

1.                  Choose Save as web page from the File pull-down menu. This should result in an html file as well as a folder named the same as the presentation file. Make sure bothe the html file and the folder are saved on your floppy.

2.                  Use WS-FTP to transfer the html file and its corresponding folder to your Rocky account.  Be sure that you are in your public-html directory in your Rocky account before commencing the file transfer.

3.                  Login to Rocky via telnet. Get into your public-html directory, then use the chmod command to set the protection on the presentation’s html file, its folder, and all of the folder’s content as shown in class.

4.                  Create a link to the presentation in your 101.html page.

5.                  Write a note on your disk that indicates the presentation is published on the web.
