Final Project Representation Plan
Group of: Theresa Kamerman, Matt Stevens, and John Perperian
Representing Beliefs:
- We will have a testimony rule which will have parameters for what they saw, what they heard, potential weapon, cause of death, the killer, and the motive and truthvalue (represented from 0-1)
- We are representing personal background knowledge as facts
- We are limiting the scope to a set number of weapons, motives, and suspects, a set
-
We will have a list of testimonies, where each entry is a tuple with the elements:
- (Saw, Heard, Weapon, Kill, Motive, WitnessName, TruthValue)
Internal Reasoning with the beliefs:
- Putting weights on testimonies: We will have a testimony rule which will have parameters for what they saw, what they heard, potential weapon, cause of death, the killer, and the motive
- The evidence is absolute but incomplete for the explanation
- Truth values 0.1-1.1 is absolutely false, 1 we know for a fact that something is true, middle is how confident we are about it.
- Internal contradiction is an automatic 0 for truthvalue.
-
Assuming there is no internal contradiction, Truth value is determined by the intersection of their beliefs and our beliefs over the union of our beliefs and their beliefs plus the 0.1 offset
-
ie if they assume the killer is craig, he was killed by a gun and the motive is affair, and we assume the killer is theresa, the victim was killed by a gun and the motive is affair, their truth value is ⅔+0.1
-
If the statement has no internal contradiction, it has a minimum value of 0.1
Conditions for revision:
- Disregarding certain testimonies
- Using motives to determine credibility
- If info is accurate their testimony has more weight but they are more likely to be guilty for having knowledge of the crime
- Contradictions between testimonies, who to believe based on the number of people who say the same thing vs outliers.
Techniques for revision:
-
Changing the weight +/- a specific value based on testimony compared to known facts. (ie direct contradiction to cause of death = -.8 to testimony)
-
Minimum of 0.1 and Maximum of 1.1
- Killer is determined by a sum of testimonies*weight saying they’re the killer + their truth value - 1.1
