PART I

1) Choose an image - you can use the image from your first assignment.

2) Describe how Buhler would use semiotics to interpret the image.

3) Describe how Langer would use semiotics to interpret the image.

PART II

1) View a film segment of your own choosing or pick one of the following:

2) Please provide an answer to the following question: in what ways is the segment a "language "? Please use Christian Metz's views as a framework for approaching your answer!

3) Take at least two signs from your segment AND

A) Explain in what way(s) they are "signs". (You might want to use Metz for "intellectual support".)

B) Choose two theorists we have discussed and explain how they might analyze the two signs you have chosen.

Study Roland Barthes' "Rhetoric of the Image" and do the following:

1) Choose an image (and, again, you can use the image from the first assignment).
