Assistant Professor
State University of New York at Oswego, Department of Computer Science
I am an Assistant Professor of Computer Science at SUNY Oswego. My research, broadly speaking, focuses on converting data to information and then to knowledge in decision making. I look at how different data-gathering techniques can be improved to enhance quality as well as minimize cost effort.
For data gathering, I look at methods and trade-offs between human- and machine-based algorithms on data creation and curation. For converting data into information and (eventually) knowledge, I look at techniques to organize information, minimize noise, and ensure data provenance. I incorporate data visualization and business intelligence methods into my research.
My work frequently incorporates a multi-disciplinary approach including aspects of software engineering, cognitive science, machine learning, data mining, human-computer interaction, information visualization, databases, and information assurance.
Prior to pursuing my PhD, I spent a number of years working in industry. This background allows me to balance the practical needs required in business with innovative theoretical approaches developed in an academic setting. I have previous experience working in different areas of Information Technology including database administration, data analytics and business intelligence, software development, training, and technical project management..
